In Tamil cinema history, we have witnessed so many evergreen songs throughout the ages. Among those songs, there are so many visuals especially particular frames that did justice to lyrics and music and poetically connected the audience.
On that line, we are going to see a song portion from the movie ko, "Ennamo yedho" by Harris Jayaraj, sung by Aalap Raju, and cinematography by Richard M Nathan.
This song was a top hit during its release and is many people's favorite till now.
So coming to our kathai sollum frames, the expected portion comes when the second charanam starts with,
Suthi suthi unnai thedi vizhigal alaiyum avasaram yeno
Satha satha nerisalil un sol sevigal ariyum athisayam yeno
The meaning is the hero's eyes were searching for her in the busy crowd and even in that crowd his ears find out her by hearing her voice. Let's see how this is poetically conveyed in the song through the visuals.
Here comes the cinematography brilliance, where the hero was focused through a crowd from one low angle and aerial shot, the crowd will be in slow motion(slow shutter) and the hero stays still in normal motion along with the lyrics,
Suthi suthi unnai thedi vizhigal alaiyum avasaram yeno
Portraying that despite the wandering crowd, his eyes were haste in searching her everywhere. The scene beautifully conveys the longing of the hero(a passionate photographer) for his woman through an ineffable feeling when the motion around him goes slow focusing on him alone.
And finally, a POV(point of view shot) where the hero is wondering that he finds her even in that crowd through the voice of her he hears. The hero was focused from her point of view portraying that the voice reached him from her.
Satha satha nerisalil un sol sevigal ariyum athisayam yeno
The reaction of the hero in the frame tells that yes I saw her finally with an affiliative smile.
Sometimes the songs become more wholesome and poetic when the visuals, music, and lyrics meet perfectly with each other in the magical line and Ennamo yedho is one among them always.
Will be back soon with other beautiful frames! Thanks.
